Showing Off Your Bra Straps Is Passe

That's right. Showing off your bra straps is passe. In comes the backless and strapless bra.

All images from LNStyle.com

The bra may look backless and strapless but the cups are held securely (like normal bra straps) by clear silicon straps that are transparent and almost skin-like. Light will not be reflected upon them either.

Matching thong

Backless or strapless bras are best worn with backless evening dress, wedding gown or dance costume. What other attire can you think of?

Criss-cross

Remember to get only clear silicon straps, and not plastic ones or any other material as these clear silicon straps will not turn yellowish or look worn after a few washings. How unsightly that would be.

I see a lot of China made ones in pasar malams in my hometown, but better invest in the real thing, you know? Yes, lingerie is an investment.

Backless Lingerie to Counter Whale Tails

While some women may like to show off their whale tail, some people think it's bad manners to show them off. And for people like me, even if the whale tail is unseen, I'd rather it be as small as possible.

So what happens if you do not want to show off your whale tail and yet want the liberty to wear low slung pants?

You may want to try out the "backless lingerie". Well, it's called "backless lingerie" but it's actually just "backless thong".

As sold by BacklessLingerie.com

I am from a backwater town in Malaysia and I am not even sure if these are available in Kuala Lumpur.

Looking at the picture, it doesn't seem comfortable to wear and it looks like it's in danger of falling off anytime. And it also looks so tight that it eats into the flesh.

But looks can be deceiving. I personally would love to get my hands on a pair just for product testing. I wonder if it's suitable for daily wear or just good for that special occasion *ahem*

I wonder how well Malaysian women, in general, will take to these backless lingerie.

TEN Most Expensive Lingerie 2006

Two days ago, I made a post on the Most Expensive Lingerie which was compiled by Forbes.com in conjunction with Valentine's Day 2005.

Today, I'm doing another post on the Most Expensive Lingerie compiled by
Forbes.com (again) in conjunction with Valentine's Day 2006.

For this 2006 list, the prices are higher but yet again,
Forbes.com did not include Victoria's Secret Diamond Fantasy Bras. Maybe it's because these lists are compiled in Febrauary while Victoria's Secret only release their Fantasy Bras in October, in time for the holiday season.

Overall, I prefer those from 2005. Apart from the lower prices, they are generally more refreshing in colours and style.

The 2006 picks, apart from a handful, look more aunty-ish and more suited for mature ladies, and we can see that the model used is more mature with a fuller, more realistic, figure.

Most Expensive Lingerie

.... according to Forbes.com who compiled this list in conjunction with Valentine's Day 2005. Of course those Victoria's Secret diamond bras and knickers are not taken into account. No one ever bought those (yet), anyway.

For more than 40 years, Paris-based Aubade has been turning out luscious, lacy lingerie for women who appreciate sophisticated seduction. A little bit "Boho," a little bit classic and patently pretty, these items come in the finest lace and Swiss, Italian and French embroidery for that just-so look. This stunning embroidered tulle and black tulle voile bra and St. Tropez boy-brief combo from Aubade's top-of-the-line "Tresor Divin" collection of is an eyeful--though for your eyes only, of course. Sleeveless robe, high-heels and wet deck not included.

From the largest French intimate apparel company comes--what else?--lusciously intimate French lingerie. It'd be hard to find something more sophisticated and refined than this bra and panty from the "Satine" collection--the former ($90) with vertical seams for an "uplifting" effect and just enough lace to decorate the neckline; the latter ($45) with the similar and equally lovely lace detailing at the leg. Comes in ice blue for spring, and ivory for any old time of year.

A graduate of the State School of Decorative Arts in Paris, Guia La Bruna began collaborating with her mother, a lingerie designer in her own right, on ways to express her creative urges through women's most intimate clothing. Inspired by things she wants to wear herself, Guia brings together vintage cuts and contemporary fabrics to create colorful girlish pieces, such as this lovely and altogether flowery "Summer Tale" bra and thong set in 100% silk.

Drop-dead lingerie at blood pressure-raising prices, La Perla is pretty much the gold standard of intimate under things. Founded in Bologna in 1954 by Ada Masotti, La Perla features a wealth of sexy and sophisticated collections--including last year's "Limited Edition" 50th Anniversary line up made from the finest Valenciennes lace and created on Caudry looms from the 18th century. This fetching "Show-Off" body suit is from the spring/summer 2005 collection. Worried she'll be a little chilly? Pair it with a matching "Emotif" robe for $296 or an "Enchante" nightgown for $306--both as pretty as the pennies you'll spend.

It's all about lace at Lise Charmel, a stylish, sophisticated and superbly fitted lingerie line founded in the 1950s in Lyon, France, and now distributed by Milltex. Rather than go the sheer and racy route, the highest-end Lise Charmel by Lise Charmel collection takes it slow and demure, with stylish and elegant French cuts that leave just enough to the imagination--but not too much. You'll have to pay a bit for such modesty, of course, but this Silk and Satin Bustier looks like it's worth the investment.

"Mary Green is to Victoria's Secret what crème brulee is to Reddi Wip," noted Daily Variety of the San Francisco-based lingerie maker who launched her business with men's silk long johns back in the 1970s. Playful, girlish and perhaps a bit garish, Green's lingerie is a favorite of the Hollywood celebrity set, but don't let that put you off. After grabbing the spotlight with customized sleep masks for the gals on Sex In The City, Green now offers 16 collections in a rainbow of colors and counter-culture styles. This long duster with boy shorts (for $18) and fishnets (here, by Wolford) is perfect ensemble for a slinky Valentine's evening.

Sexy things come in small boutiques, and when it comes to lingerie there's nothing sexier, smaller or more expensive than Sabbia Rosa. Founded by its Tunisian namesake on the Left Bank of Paris in 1976, the tiny shop is a regular stop for the rich, famous, celebrity and royalty among us, including Nicole Kidman, Madonna, Naomi Campbell, Catherine Deneuve, Sofia Coppola and even Woody Allen. Rosa designs and hand-makes everything herself in finest silk, satin and lace, changing her collections monthly and happily catering to client suggestions. Collections change monthly, and prices do, too: The most expensive item in store at the moment is a cashmere and silk robe for around $3,230. An extensive line-up includes every under-thing you could imagine, including camisoles and nightgowns that can double as outerwear. Available via phone sales, as well as at Barneys in the U.S.

Just imagine the look on your Valentine's face when she unwraps a pair of these--not to mention the look on yours when she actually tries them on. Founded three years ago in Sussex, England, by artists Lisa Morgan and Melanie Probert, Strumpet & Pink aims for fantasy and delivers with frilly, handmade concoctions in satins, silks and chiffons, embellishments such as pearls, ribbons, flowers and bows, and earthy colors such as lichen, berry and "slutty-pinky-browny" mink. (That's their description, not ours.) Off-the-rack S&P knickers run $330 to $460, while fantasy's the limit on bespoke items.

As pretty as spring flowers--or your Valentine herself--this slinky, French-inspired, stretch lace and mesh "Merrywidow" is a standout among Victoria's Secret notoriously come-hither collection. Fashioned by Chantal Thomass with playful embellishments and a provocative cut, it's fashioned from imported nylon and spandex and available in pink and white. Sure to make her look like a Victoria's Secret supermodel--all for yourself.

And they didn't even include "Lola Luna" whose wisps of fabric sell from at least USD45 and above.

Those who always ask me for discounts should understand that the less fabric a piece of lingerie has, the less coverage it affords, the more expensive it is.

Eva Herzigová ~ First Wonderbra Spokesmodel

The Wonderbra is a push up bra sold under Playtex Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Sara Lee Corporation.

The Wonderbra, although first started in 1964, was only introduced to the United States in May, 1994, where it garnered much publicity thanks to heavy marketing and advertising.

What makes the Wonderbra so special is that it's supposed to give the plunging, uplift, rounded and cleavage effects, thus enhancing a woman's body shape.

The first ever celebrity spokesmodel for the Wonderbra was Eva Herzigová. Ms. Herzigová is a supermodel and actress born on 12th March, 1973, in Litvinov, Czech Republic.

She married Tico Torres, the drummer from Bon Jovi, in September 1996, but unfortunately the union broke up in June 1998.

BraBall ... Huh? What? Why?

I believe most of us have heard of the Pink Ribbon and know that October is a month dedicated to creating Breast Cancer Awareness, led by Estee Lauder's Breast Cancer Foundation.

Do know know about the Braball?

The braball idea was mooted by an artist by the name of Emily Duffy in 2000, and was completed in 2003.

It was made as a tribute to women and at the same time creating awareness to a very personal part of a woman's body. The braball is, after all, dedicated to Jessica, Emily's best friend, who is a breast cancer survivor.

To read more about the braball, please visit The Braball.

Heidi Klum In a $11 million dollar Diamond Studded Victoria's Secret Fantasy Bra

Since I have already posted two supermodels in Victoria's Secret Fantasy Bras, I thought I'd do one on Heidi Klum in a $11 million "Fantasy Bra", encrusted with 2,809 white diamonds, sapphires and amethysts.

Tyra Banks Poses in 112 Carats of Luxurious Lift & Support

I subsequently came across an old photo of Tyra Banks modelling Victoria's Secret Heavenly '70s Fantasy bra.

Tyra Banks strikes a pose with 112 carats of luxurious lift and support

Tyra Banks in 112 carats is uplifting
By Karen Thomas, USA TODAY

The Mouawad-designed Heavenly '70s Fantasy bra contains 2,900 diamonds. Yeah, but do the straps stay up on the shoulders?

The model shows off this year's Heavenly '70s Fantasy bra from Victoria's Secret, a $10 million creation from jewelry designer Mouawad.

The brassiere's weighty highlight: a flawless 70-carat pear-shaped diamond in the center. The jeweled bra also is adorned with 2,900 diamonds set in 10-karat white gold. It will be featured in Victoria's Secret's Christmas catalog, due in mailboxes Friday.

This is Banks' second time introducing the dream bra, an annual event for nine years. In 1997, Banks, host of UPN's hit reality series America's Next Top Model, launched a $3 million bra made by Harry Winston.

Heidi Klum has been the model three times, including 2003, when she was newly pregnant with her daughter, who was born in May.

This year's bra isn't the most expensive one ever. That honor goes back to the economic heyday of 2000, when Winston created a $15 million bra.

Karolina Kurkova in Victoria's Secret $6.5 million Hearts on Fire Diamond Fantasy Bra

Karolina Kurkova

By Karen Thomas, USA TODAY

The annual Victoria's Secret Fantasy Bra has a new twist this year: It's relatively comfy, according to the woman wearing it.

The $6.5 million Hearts on Fire Diamond Fantasy Bra, weighing 800 carats, is "very sexy and very comfortable, and it doesn't dig in," coos model Karolina Kurkova, who says the design is significantly improved over the 2002 version, which she also modeled.

"Back then, I had a person come in and mold my breasts into a bra made of metal and diamonds," she says. This year, more than 2,000 round diamonds are embroidered onto the undergarment, which has a 10-carat diamond brooch centerpiece.

Relaxed fit aside, Kurkova is amused that no one has actually purchased the bra. The current version appears in the 2006 Victoria's Secret Christmas Dreams and Fantasies catalog, which arrives in mailboxes next week. "If someone ever does, I would really like to meet them."

Gawddddd IF I have that kinda money, I'd carve a perfect body first.

Melania Knaus Trump ~ The Lingerie Supermodel

Melania Knaus, born Melanija Knavs on 6th May, 1970, in Slovenia (former Yugoslavia) is a supermodel famous in many parts of Europe.

In the United States, she is better known as Mrs. Donald Trump No. 3. Yes, the wife of tycoon Donald Trump. They were married on 22nd January, 2005.

She was a well-known lingerie model before her marriage. Check these!

Melania Knaus also did a nude layout and cover for the January, 2000 issue of British GQ but those shots are definitely not suitable for this blog. :-p
